Water Damage

Water Damage is one of the most frustrating problems that any homeowner can face. It can be as simple as a small spill to major flooding caused by numerous sources.  Flood and water damage has the ability to do immediate and long term harm to your property and health if not dealt with correctly.

Water has the unique ability to wick into and soak almost everything in its path. If water is located upstairs it can cause ceilings to collapse.  If nothing is done about the water damage, in as little as 5 days mold can start to grow leading to a myriad of health and breathing issues. Once mold has started growing, you should have a professional handle the mold remediation.

Water Damage in homes is often not visible to the naked eye. That is why we use infrared cameras to see behind the surfaces as well as other moisture detection devices. The biggest mistake a home owner can make is assuming that the little amount of water that is visible is all that is there. Once your house or business is wet, especially in the Northwest, it will not dry on its own.

It is important to act fast. The longer the water sits, the worse the damage becomes. Immediately addressing water problems saves thousands of dollars in repair costs and can save you from secondary damage that is not covered by your insurance. Secondary damage is what can happen if the drying process is not started immediately.

The homeowner can be found negligent by the insurance company if it is discovered that they purposefully did not contact a water damage company to address the issue upon learning of it.

Absolute Water Damage technicians make sure you understand the steps involved with comprehensive damage assessments and remediation.  We understand insurance companies and how to work with them to help get your house back to normal ASAP.

Once you have found a water damage problem, it is recommended you figure out what caused it and stop additional water from entering the area. Starting to clean the water up will do no good if more is coming in.

As soon as you have the water stopped, it is wise to immediately start the water extraction. We use a high powered commercial vacuum, or in extreme cases a submersible pump. It is very important to get as much water cleaned up before starting the drying process.

The number one priority once you have noticed water damage is protecting your property. Remove all small items from the area. The larger items can be handled by our team. If you have paper products that are wet, they may be salvaged by freezing them immediately and then drying them.

If the water is Category 2 or 3 flood water, most things will have to be replaced as the water is likely contaminated.

You must start the drying process. Especially here in the Northwest, your house will not dry on its own. It is necessary to use large air movers, dehumidifiers, and sometimes heaters to get your property dry. You can not start any repair work on the structure until the property is properly dried. Most water damage situations can be dried within 5 to 7 days, if not faster.

Water travels. We bring in highly sophisticated equipment to search for water. We can use infrared cameras to locate water in areas that appear dry behind walls, underneath floors, etc. We use a six step process using the latest equipment and techniques:

  1. Inspection and Assessment
  2. Water Extraction
  3. Anti-Microbial Biocide Application
  4. Drying: Air Movement
  5. Drying: Dehumidifying
  6. Drying: Monitoring

We understand the principles involved in water damage restoration.  We can accurately estimate the total cost of the work, thereby saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars in repair costs.

Once dry, all carpets, flooring, and drywall surfaces that were affected should be cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized. Carpets should be taken up to be cleaned and any damp padding thrown out and replaced.  If the carpet itself has been wet for longer than two days or appears to be damaged or delaminating, replace it as well.
